President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on a two-nation diplomatic visit to Japan and Brazil, starting Thursday, August 14, with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
This development was made known in a press statement issued by the presidency on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the President’s foreign trip is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s international partnerships, fostering economic growth, and enhancing trade and investment opportunities.
From August 20 to 22, Tinubu is expected to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, the statement revealed.
The statement reads in part: “Themed ‘Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,’ TICAD9 aims to accelerate Africa’s economic transformation through private investment, innovation, and institutional reforms while promoting peace, stability, and human security.
“Initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank, TICAD serves as a vital platform for high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and global development partners. The last conference was held in Tunisia in August 2022.
“During his time in Japan, President Tinubu will engage in plenary sessions, hold bilateral meetings with world leaders, and connect with Japanese CEOs whose companies have investments in Nigeria.”
After the conclusion of the trip to Japan, Tinubu is expected to travel to Brasilia, Brazil, for a two-day state visit from August 24 to 25, on the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The statement added that the visit will feature high-level bilateral talks, a business forum with Brazilian investors, and the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen Nigeria-Brazil cooperation.
