Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has tendered his resignation, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure amid concerns over his worsening health.
The development was confirmed on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has accepted the resignation.
According to Onanuga, Badaru’s decision was communicated through an official letter in which he cited his declining health as the sole reason for stepping aside from the critical national security post.
President Tinubu, while acknowledging the letter, expressed appreciation for Badaru’s contributions to the administration, thanking him for his service and wishing him a full recovery.
Badaru’s exit comes at a time Nigeria continues to grapple with complex security challenges across several regions, making the vacancy a significant development within the nation’s defence architecture.
