President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern warning to terrorists and insurgents, urging them to surrender or face the full might of the Nigerian military.
The president delivered this warning while opening the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Inaugural Annual International Lecture in Abuja on Thursday.
Represented by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Tinubu highlighted the government’s renewed determination to combat insecurity in the country and beyond, particularly in the Sahel region. He emphasized that those who continue to challenge the peace of the nation will be met with a stronger military response.
While addressing the audience at the lecture, Ribadu quoted the president, saying: “The time has come for those who are determined to destabilize our nation and region to reconsider their actions. We are fully equipped and prepared to defend our people and land. Surrender now, or face renewed and sustained military onslaught.”
The lecture, themed “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s Challenges – Genesis, Impacts, and Options,” was part of NAN’s efforts to discuss and proffer solutions to the insecurity challenges facing Nigeria and the Sahel region.
It would be recalled that Nigeria has been grappling with insecurity caused by terrorist groups, particularly in the northeastern region, where Boko Haram and ISWAP have continued their insurgency.
The administration has been working to dismantle these groups through various military operations and diplomatic efforts within the region.
The New Diplomat reports that Tinubu’s administration has repeatedly reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism and insurgency from the region. His latest warning signals a continuation of his government’s tough stance on security matters.
