This was conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Tinubu.

“President Tinubu affirms that the successful conduct of elections in the nation underlines the commitment of the government and the people of Chad to democracy and orderly transitions in the region.

“The President assures President-elect Déby that Nigeria will continue to work closely with the Republic of Chad, as both countries seek to enhance peace, security, and shared prosperity for the mutual benefit of their peoples.

“The President also calls for sustained, friendly cooperation between both nations, while wishing the President-Elect success as he undertakes this noble service to the people of Chad,” the statement read in part.

Deby, 40, emerged victorious on Friday in the closely monitored presidential election in Chad, as per provisional results disclosed by the National Election Management Agency.

According to the electoral commission, the military leader secured 61.03% of the votes, defeating Prime Minister Succes Masra, who received only 18.53% of the votes.

He assumed the presidency of the Transitional Military Council (TMC) on April 20, 2021, following the death of his father, the late Chadian President Idriss Déby, who tragically passed away in action while leading troops in the Northern Chad offensive.

Prior to this role, Deby served as the second-in-command of the military for the Chadian Intervention in Northern Mali (FATIM).
