President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has felicitated with John Dramani Mahama on winning Ghana’s presidential election.
Tinubu, in a telephone call said Mahama’s victory is a testament that the citizens of Ghana have full trust in him.
The Nigerian President also commended Ghanaians for demonstrating to the world that democracy is the preferred path to achieving political stability, economic development, social justice, and transparent governance in Africa.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Tinubu during the telephone conversation also called on Mahama to ensure that his second time in office would further help to bring about stability to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The statement reads in part: “President Tinubu renews his steadfast support for deepening the fraternal bonds between Nigeria and Ghana, underpinned by shared history, cultural ties, mutual support and cooperation, Pan-African goals, democracy, the rule of law, and economic integration.”
Tinubu said he was also looking forward to working with Mahama’s incoming administration to strengthen bilateral ties across various sectors and build a brighter future in the West Africa region.
The New Diplomat reports that Mahama won the December 7 presidential election of Ghana. He returned to power having served as President from 2012 to 2017.
Mahama had also served as Vice President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012, Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2009, and held deputy and ministerial roles between 1998 and 2001, respectively.
