…NEC Meeting To Follow Tomorrow

By Kolawole Ojebisi

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed optimism that both the Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, slated for Tuesday and Wednesday respectively will go ahead as planned.

APC also ruled out any fear of postponement as witnessed in the past.

The ruling party also noted that President Bola Tinubu will be present to chair today’s National Caucus meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This was disclosed by the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru in an interview with The PUNCH.

He said, “By the grace of God, the President will be there. He has already confirmed his attendance.”

“No, nobody is postponing anything. The National Caucus and the NEC meetings will still be held Tuesday and Wednesday as scheduled,” he assured.

Recall that last year, the two crucial sessions, earlier scheduled for September 11 and 12 in Abuja, respectively, were called off.

Although no reason was given for the indefinite suspension, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, assured that a new date would be announced later.

However, five months after it was called off, concerns were raised over when the ruling party plans to reschedule the NEC meeting.

But the APC maintained a sealed lip over the matter, with members of the National Working Committee chorusing ‘very soon’ every time they were asked for the new dates.

However, a leaked memo cited by newsmen signed by Basiru revealed that while the National Caucus meeting will take place at the Presidential Villa banquet hall on February 25, the party national secretariat in Abuja will host the NEC the next day.

The terse statement read, “Distinguished colleagues, kindly circulate the following to all party stakeholders in the states that the National Caucus of the party is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 25 February 2025, at the Banquet of the Presidential Villa by 6 pm.

“The National Executive Committee is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 26 February 2025, at the National Secretariat of the Party. Best regards.”

The crucial sessions of the two statutory organs of the party are expected to be chaired by President Bola Tiinubu and would also have Vice President Kashim Shettima and former President Muhammadu Buhari in attendance.

Also expected are the National Chairman of the party, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje; the current Senate President, Dr Godswill Akpabio, and his predecessor; past and present APC governors; former and serving Speakers of the House of Representatives of the party; state party chairmen; the National Working Committee and other stakeholders.

Incidentally, the NEC and Caucus meetings would be Ganduje’s first since he assumed office as the national chairman of the APC.
