Former governor of Kebbi State and also ex-federal legislator, Atiku Bagudu, who is President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominee has been linked to late dictator General Sani Abacha’s looting of billions of dollars belonging to Nigeria.

According to a Premium Times report, “At the time Mr. Bagudu was helping Mr. Abacha steal Nigeria dry, Mr. Tinubu was financing some political and civil society actors demanding the dictator’s exit.

“In fact, at the time Mr. Bagudu was helping Mr Abacha steal Nigeria dry, Mr. Tinubu was financing some political and civil society actors demanding the dictator’s exit. Mr. Tinubu had to go into exile due to fears the dictator wanted to kill or imprison him.”

As Nigeria moved on politically from the harsh Abacha era, the formation of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2013, and its eventual electoral success in the 2015 general elections, Tinubu and Bagudu were brought together in a relationship that blossomed when Tinubu sought the party’s presidential ticket last year.

Willy-nilly, on Wednesday, Bagudu made the second batch of the 19-person ministerial list Tinubu sent to the Senate for screening and confirmation as ministers.
