President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Dr. Kayode Opeifa as the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).

Opeifa previously served as the Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State under the administration of former Governor Babatunde Fashola and as the Mandate Secretary for Transportation in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Tinubu described the appointment as strategic and aimed at modernizing and potentially digitizing the services of the NRC.

A statement issued by the presidency noted that as Lagos State Commissioner, Opeifa implemented transformative policies that significantly improved public transport and traffic management, laying a strong foundation for the state’s urban development.

With this new role, Dr. Opeifa is expected to lead the modernization of Nigeria’s railway network, a crucial component of the country’s economic growth.

The New Diplomat reports that Opeifa becomes the latest former government official from Lagos State to be appointed by Tinubu, who also served as governor of the State from 1999 to 2007.
