The THISDAY Alumni Association has congratulated the Chairman of THISDAY/Arise Media Group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, as he clocks 65 years today, July 14, 2024.

The association in a statement issued by its president, Dr. Tony Onyima, described Obaigbena as “a man renowned for his visionary leadership, relentless innovation, and remarkable resilience in the media industry”.

According to Onyima, Obaigbena’s vision has redefined journalistic standards and expanded the horizons for media practitioners globally.

The statement further stated that “Obaigbena’s innovative spirit was further showcased with the establishment of ARISE News, which provides diverse narratives and elevates African stories on the global stage. His commitment to media excellence and dedication to amplifying marginalised voices have inspired countless journalists and media professionals”.

Beyond his professional achievements, Onyima described Obaigbena’s resilience in the face of challenges as a beacon of inspiration. “His ability to navigate and overcome obstacles while steadfastly maintaining journalistic integrity and freedom offers hope to media practitioners everywhere. His story encourages the pursuit of excellence despite the odds.”

Reflecting on his 65th birthday, Onyima added that the impact of Prince Obaigbena’s work is evident in the innumerable lives he has touched. His dedication to fostering a free press, nurturing young talent, and promoting free enterprise and democracy, he said, is both commendable and inspiring.

“The THISDAY Alumni Association extends their deepest gratitude and warmest regards to Prince Nduka Obaigbena. His visionary leadership and enduring contributions have solidified his legacy as a titan in the media industry. As he continues his journey, his influence and inspiration are expected to keep transforming the media world, ” Onyima said.

The New Diplomat reports that Obaigbena was born on July 14, 1959. He attended Edo College, Benin City, and the University of Benin. He attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and the Advanced Management Programme at the University of Cape Town.

He founded the Nigerian newspaper Thisday in 1995. In 2000 Obaigbena founded the annual Thisday Awards which honor those who made contributions to Nigerian society in the political arena, global business, Women of distinction, and leading figures in the Nigerian education sector.

In 2013 he launched an international TV news channel with an African focus, Arise News Channel, leading to the formation of Thisday Newspaper/Arise TV Media Group.
