Social activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore has criticized the Presidency for accusing supporters of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi of planning a proposed nationwide protests.

Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress party, stated that the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga who made the allegation is merely attempting to shift the blame to Obi for what he described as a ‘failure of the administration.”

It would be recalled that following reports that some certain individuals are plotting to organise nationwide protests starting from August 1, Onanuga, in a statement had accused the supporters of Obi of supporting or being the promoter of the call for a nationwide protest.

The senior presidential aide maintained that the organisers are the same individuals who hijacked the #ENDSARS protest of 2020.However, Obi and the Labour Party had denied the accusations.

In his reaction, Sowore said the proposed protest was not politically motivated but hunger-induced. He said: “The drivel from a sinking regime. There is nothing that could stop an idea whose time has come. It doesn’t matter how you frame your fears and shenanigans, and the truth is that Nigerians are tired of the deceit, corruption, wickedness and incompetence of the ruling class and have opted to act from all locations at once.”
