Kunle, an electrical engineering graduate, struggled to find a job for three years after his National Youth Service in Makurdi. Back in Lagos, he worked at a laundry and met the beautiful Funke. He pretended to own the establishment to impress her.

One day, Kunle wore his client’s expensive clothes (This was a client. who was traveling to New York for 8 weeks and wanted a section of his wardrobe dry cleaned ) to visit Funke during her break. A friend helped him secure a discounted date at Club Balinga Restaurant and Lounge. They arrived in style with a Range Rover driven by Ajasco; a manager at a local car hire firm who owed Kunle a favour.

Everything went well until an Afrobeat star came to the restaurant. Funke, excited, took a photo with the star and Kunle. The pictures went viral on social media, with Kunle’s unique Agbada stealing the show.

His New York client recognized him and exposed his true identity, calling him a lowly washerman. Funke defended him online, but in the end, Kunle lost his job and fled to Akure to lay low. Funke moved on from the deception.
