Following the directive of the Delta State Government to ban all commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, the state police has confirmed that it will enforce the development with a stern warning to riders to comply or face severe consequences.

The Public Relations Officer of Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the ban, emphasizing that any impounded motorcycles will be crushed.

Edafe announced this enforcement on his X (formerly Twitter)handle on Sunday, stating, “The enforcement of the ban on motorcycles popularly called Okada is serious and that’s exactly how we take it.”

“The ban is real, so it’s better you carry your bike and lock it somewhere because Edafe Bright cannot help when it’s impounded. The directive from the State Government is to crush them all,” the spokesperson stated clearly

It would be recalled that the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu, had officially announced the ban during a briefing in Asaba, following the State Council Meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on May 24.

Emu explained that the ban is in response to the rising crime rate and incidents of vandalism associated with Okada motorcycles in the State. According to him, the strict enforcement of this ban will commence on Saturday, June 1.

The state government also urged all “Okada” riders to comply with the new regulations to avoid the destruction of their motorcycles as well as ensure they contribute to the state’s efforts in curbing crime and maintaining public safety.
