In a concerning escalation of violence, suspected hoodlums have set ablaze the Neni Police station in Anaocha Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra state.

Additionally, another group of armed gangs reportedly ignited flames at the Anaocha Local Government Headquarters, chanting hostile songs directed at the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

These incidents follow a recent attack on the Awgbu police station where two officers were reportedly killed, while another narrowly escaped.

According to news reports, the attack on the local government headquarters occurred between 3 am and 4 am on Thursday.

It was gathered that the hoodlums abducted several police operatives, including female personnel, from the police station.

The hoodlums alleged that the Anaocha Police Station had turned into another Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) station.

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Anambra state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident, said that the hoodlums attacked the police station with IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) but did not take away any arms, neither was any police personnel abducted.

He stated that the hoodlums were effectively driven back by the superior firepower of the police operatives, compelling them to retreat.

The police spokesman also mentioned that police activities are still going on in the area at the time he was responding to the situation.

He refused to comment on the alleged killing of police officers at Awgbu police station by the gunmen.

But according to a senior officer, investigations are ongoing to arrest the hoodlums.

“They want to scare those ready for the Easter holidays, but we are ready for them,” The Nation quoting the senior officer.
