The Islamic community of Nigeria has been thrown into a mourning state following the passing of a distinguished scholar and preacher, Alhaji Muyideen Ajani Bello, who passed away at the age of 84.

Born in 1940 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Alhaji Bello was celebrated for his deep and enlightening Islamic teachings that had a profound impact on many followers.

His death was announced by another respected figure in Islamic scholarship, Alfa Aribidesi of At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah.

Aribidesi said Bello passed away in the early hours of Friday.

Also, another Islamic singer, Alhaji Basit Olarenwaju, popularly known as Aponle Anabi, mourned the passage of Bello by posting an image of the scholar with tearful emojis on his official Facebook page on Friday.

He stated: “Today is one of my saddest days! My father and mentor, has returned to his creator. SULTONUL WAHIZEEN of Yorubaland Sheikh muhyideen AJANI BELLO, may Allah be pleased with your soul. Aljannah fridaos for you . Our heart is full of grief and our eyes full of tears but we will say nothing but what will please our Creator the sole commander of life and death – ALLAH.”

The New Diplomat reports that Bello began his public preaching career at the age of ten after learning the Quranic teachings from his father, a prominent Afaa, in Agberigbe, a village in Iwo. At the age of nine, he was assigned to his uncle, who was also a public preacher and had a house in Ibadan.

After he reached his uncle’s house, he attended a private school in Ibadan and also attended Alukurani’s school in the evenings. He worked as a teacher at Ansa-ru-deen College in Saki, Oyo State. He also worked as a teacher at Abeokuta Secondary School, where he taught Mathematics and Biology.
