A renowned Nigerian scholar, politician and diplomat, Prof. Jubril Aminu, has passed away, aged 85.
Aminu”s death was confirmed by a family member on Thursday.
His death has also been confirmed by Hon. Abdullahi Prambe, Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development in Adamawa State,
According to the two sources, Aminu, who served variously as Nigeria’s minister for Education, Petroleum, Senator, and later, as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States died on Wednesday night.
Born in August 25, 1939 in a town known as Song in Adamawa State, Aminu was a towering figure in Nigerian public life.
Aminu, who was a man of many parts, had a career spanning several critical sectors.
He was a Consultant Cardiologist, an influential educational administrator, and a seasoned statesman.
The deceased served in both appointive and elective positions.
His versatility earned him ministerial appointments in two critical sectors: Education and Petroleum $ Mineral Resources.
Aminu also served as Nigerian Ambassador to the United States.
He would later be elected as a senator to represent Adamawa Central.
Reacting to his death Prambe said, “His contributions to education, healthcare, and governance will remain etched in our history,”
According to a family source Aminu’s funeral is scheduled for 2 pm today, following the Zuhr prayer, at the Abuja National Mosque.
The family is yet to release an official statement regarding the exact cause of death or further funeral arrangements.
