Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Muhammadu Jega, the mother of a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has passed away.

The mother of the former INEC boss was said to have breathed her last in the late hours of Friday.

She died in Abuja after battling with an undisclosed illness.

This was made known in a statement issued by the Jega family.

In the statement, the family announced that the burial rites of Hauwa will be held at the National Mosque in Abuja today, Saturday, August 17, 2024. She will subsequently be laid to rest at Gudu Cemetery, Abuja, immediately after the prayers.

Hajiya Hauwa is survived by a large and accomplished family, including notable personalities such as Malam Mahmud Jega, a respected journalist and columnist, and Alhaji Abbas Jega, a former Executive Director of AMCON.
