Dowen College, a secondary school located in Lekki area of Lagos state will not resume session as schools reopen for the commencement of second term on Tuesday.
This is in connection with the ongoing investigations about the cause of death of one of its students, Sylvester Oromoni.
Assistant Director in charge of public affairs unit, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Ganiu Lawal, made this known while speaking with Premium Times.
Lawal said the school will not reopen until the ongoing investigations reaches an advanced and logical stage.
“But I can assure you that very soon, the issue will be resolved, but they are not resuming tomorrow,” Lawal was quoted to have said.
Sylvester passed away on November 30, 2021, and his death has since been the subject of controversy. The family of the deceased have alleged that their son was murdered by some of his colleagues for refusing to join a cult group.
The authorities of Dowen College has since denied the claims, saying Sylvester died from injuries he sustained during a football match.
The autopsy carried out on the 12-year-old student at the Central Hospital, Warri, Delta State revealed that Sylvester suffered from acute lung injury which was caused by ‘chemical intoxication’ prior to his death.
In a copy of autopsy result signed by Clement Vhriterhire, consultant pathologist at the Central Hospital, it was established that there was evidence of scalded upper lips suggesting that the Sylvester might have been fed with some harmful chemical substance.
