No fewer than ten people have been arrested by the police in connection with fresh attacks in Yelwa Zangam village of Jos North council area of Plateau state, Tuesday, which had claimed about 35 lives, reports say.

The attack comes in about two weeks after muslim travellers were massacred on Rukuba road in Jos.

According to reports, several houses were also burnt down in Yelwa Zangam village during the attacks which claimed the lives of several locals.

Yakubu Bagudu, a resident, confirmed the fresh attack on Wednesday morning, saying more than 30 people were killed, adding that security personnel had been deployed in the area.

Governor Lalong who described the attacks as “barbaric” has directed security personnel to intensify efforts in tracking down the other assailants and their sponsors to bring them to justice.

The statement by Lalong’s Director of Press, Makut Macham says “Lalong is furious over the incident which security reports indicate was carefully planned as the bridge linking the village was said to have been destroyed to deny security forces access to the area during the attack,” the statement said.

“Governor Lalong again warns criminals that they will be pursued, arrested, and dealt with, no matter how long it takes, as his administration will not allow the reign of terror to persist and rubbish all the investments made in restoring calm in the State, ” he said.

The state police command spokesman, ASP Ubah Gabriel, confirmed the attack, but said details of the incident would be issued later.
