US lawmakers escalate Christian genocide narrative, accuse Nigeria of downplaying targeted killings

By Obinna Uballa The Nigerian government’s push to counter the Christian-genocide narrative promoted by the Donald Trump administration appears to be gaining little traction, as United States lawmakers have forcefully rejected Abuja’s position on alleged targeted killings of Christians during a rare joint congressional briefing on 'escalating religious violence in Nigeria.' The session, convened on…

By Farooq Kperogi While I am delighted that President Bola Tinubu appears to be taking security more seriously than he previously did (signaled by the appointment of General Christopher Musa as the new Minister of Defence, and hopefully this isn’t just a change in personnel without a substantive change in the approach to stamping out…

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the release of the father of Ms. Chidinma Ojukwu, the alleged killer of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Super TV, Mr Usifo Ataga.

The New Diplomat had reported that the father of the embattled 21-year-old undergraduate of University of Lagos, was arrested at his residence in the Yaba area of Lagos State for resisting the arrest of his daughter and for becoming violent with policemen, who went to apprehend her.

Chidinma has since narrated how she stabbed Ataga twice to death.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu has disclosed that Chidinma’s father has been released, adding that one Mrs. Nkechi Mogbo, who operates the service apartment where Ataga was murdered has also been released on bail.

According to the CP, Mogbo had been arrested prior to the arrest of Chidinma.

Recall that Chidinma, during her confession stated that she and the deceased were in a service apartment in the Lekki Area of Lagos on June 15, 2021 when the incident happened. According to her side of the story, she and Ataga were in the lodge smoking and drinking before the incident.

However, Odumosu stated that Chidinma’s account and preliminary investigation had exonerated Mogbo, necessitating her release on bail.

The Lagos police CP also noted that the command would keep in touch with Mogbo as investigation is still ongoing.

Odumosu said, “Chidinma’s statement exonerated her father as she said that he was not aware of the incident. We released him. Also, the lady in our custody, one Mrs Nkechi Mogbo, who leased the flat from the property owner and used it for a service apartment, has been released on bail.

“After Magbo was arrested, she assisted the police because of the information she gave us. Now that we got the principal suspect, and the fact that the principal suspect confessed that she singularly committed the act, and equally went further to explain that she never met Nkechi Mogbo, but that she only phoned her and that they transacted all the business online, I have ordered her release on bail while we continue our investigation.

“However, if any other thing during the investigation points to her, bail is not the end of the case and we will bring her back.”
