The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has reacted to the allegation of murder against a 300-level Mass Communication student of the institution, Ms. Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu.

Chidinma, 21, had publicly confessed to how she murdered her secret lover and the CEO of Super TV, Mr Usifo Ataga.

Since the news broke, UNILAG has not released an official statement confirming the student status of Chidinma who claimed to be studying Mass Communication in the school.

Meanwhile, UNILAG’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Oluwole Familoni, who spoke to the Tribune, Friday stated that the institution has refused to comment on the incident because no official complaint has been filed with the university.

According to him, the university community is still in shock over the news, however, the school authorities cannot take any decision for now because the institution was yet to receive any official report from the appropriate quarters, especially from the police, on the allegation levelled against one of its students.

The deputy vice-chancellor also noted that Chidinma committed the alleged crime far away from the university campus and therefore her action was personal and had nothing to do with UNILAG.

“So, to us in UNILAG, it is very unfortunate that the girl is not a good ambassador of our university. But then, we can’t disown her because of her alleged action which the school totally condemns.”

“So, if the university will do anything on the matter, particularly now, it will require official communication from appropriate authorities, particularly the police, to the university,” the Tribune quoted Familoni as saying.

The New Diplomat had reported that Chidinma, in her account said she and the deceased were in a service apartment in the Lekki Area of Lagos on June 15, 2021 when the incident happened. According to Chidinma’s side of the story, she and Ataga were in the lodge smoking and drinking before the incident.

Chidinma made the revelations while she was being paraded for her alleged crime by the Lagos State Police command at the headquarters in Ikeja.
