Spain has secured a place in the semi-finals of Euro 2024 after a thrilling quarter-final victory over the host nation, Germany.
Germany bowed out of the competition after a late strike from Spain in the extra time.
Though the first half lacked exciting moments, the game intensified in the second half as Spain’s Dani Olmo found the back of the net, only for Germany’s Florian Wirtz to equalize just before the end of regular time.
The deadlock was eventually broken in extra time when Mikel Merino scored with a well-placed header, securing Spain’s victory.
Despite a late red card for Dani Carvajal, Spain emerged triumphant and advanced to the next stage of the competition.
Germany has become the first host nation ever to be eliminated in the quarter-finals of a European Championship.
