Popular human rights activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore has vowed to drag President Bola Tinubu to court if his name is included in any national honours list.

Sowore, the #RevolutionNow convener and former African Action Congress presidential candidate made this explosive statement on Friday, June 13, 2025, via his social media platforms.

He argued that including his name on any honours list would be a deliberate act of defamation, misrepresenting his principles and tarnishing his reputation as a staunch critic of the government.

“If I were mistakenly included by Tinubu on his ‘National Award’ list, I would not only reject and denounce the award but also take definitive legal action for defamation,” Sowore wrote.

The New Diplomat reports that Sowore has been a long-time critic of the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government.

He has opposed Tinubu’s leadership style and policies severally.

His latest comments come after Tinubu conferred national awards on several individuals on June 12, the democracy day of Nigeria.
