The publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has stated that he is no longer fully committed to the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that his soul has left the main opposition party.

The veteran journalist attributed his frustration with the party to the recent developments in the party, particularly the lingering crisis and gale of defections rocking it.

Momodu stated this during an interview on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State’s programme, on Tuesday.

He bemoaned the division within the PDP, which, according to him, poses a serious challenge to the ruling party.

“My soul has left the PDP; it’s only my body that remains.

“If the PDP were united, it could defeat the APC in 2027.

“But too many forces within and outside are fighting against this.”

Momodu added that, “the ruling party’s strategy is to weaken the opposition.”

The PDP’s chieftain is a loyalist of former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar and an intimate friend of Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Momodu’s statement has been interpreted in some quarters as a hint at defection.

This speculation is fuelled by the recent visit of some members of the Adeleke family to President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that another ally of Atiku, Segun Sowunmi, visited Tinubu in his Ikoyi residence on Sunday.

Reacting to criticisms trailing his visit, Sowunmi on Channel’s TV’s ‘Politics Today’ on Monday evening, said, “I am at liberty as an adult to take decisions. I am not tied to anybody. I am not anti-Tinubu. I own my mouth, I own my words, and I own my arguments.

“Do you know the difference between Bola and them? He doesn’t have one approach to dealing with everybody. By miles, he (Tinubu) is smarter than them. He is smarter than Peter Obi, he is smarter than them,”
