Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engr Emeka Ezenwanne, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen, has been released after spending three days in captivity.
Ezenwanne was kidnapped on Wednesday by unknown gunmen who attacked Isuofia, the country home of former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo, while he was holding an interactive session with youths at the Civic center in the community.
Soludo escaped the attack unhurt, however, three policemen attached to him lost their lives during the attack.
The Public Relation Officer (PRO), Anambra State Police command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the release of the commissioner in the early hours of Sunday.
According to him, a joint team of Police, Military and other security agencies had gone on a search and rescue mission, which in turn forced the abductors to release the commissioner.
This was contained in a press statement released by the police Command, Sunday.
According to the statement, the commissioner was freed unhurt, adding that he is now at home with his family members.
Ikenga also appealed to the citizens of the state to remain calm as the police and other security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure that there is peace and order in the country, especially during this Easter festive season.
The statement reads, “The Anambra State Police Command today 4th April, 2021, wishes to confirm to the members of the Public, especially Ndi Anambra the safety of Engr Emeka Ezenwanne, the State Commissioner for Public Utilities. The Police, Military and other Security Agencies had mounted intense search and rescue efforts, which had closed in on his abductors, thereby forcing his release. The Hon Commissioner returned home unhurt, in the early hours of today 4th April 2021.”
