Super Falcons forward, Desire Ugochi Oparanozie, on Wednesday announced her retirement from football.

In a post shared on her X account, the 29-year-old thanked her fans, family and friends for their support over the decade.

“To my fans, family, and friends, thank you for the show of love and support over the years,” she said.

“It’s time to take a bow, as I believe there’s no better time than now. I’m officially announcing my retirement from professional football for both club and country.

“To every team and coach I have played for, to every mate I’ve played alongside, and to every opponent I have played against, thank you all for being part of this incredible journey. Thank you football, thank you Nigeria.”

Oparanozie made her first appearance for the Super Falcons in 2010 in the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany.

She had an incredible career with the Super Falcons scoring 22 goals in 35 appearances helping her team to win four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) titles in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

Oparanozie has played for seven foreign clubs from 2011 to 2023.
