The All Progressives Congress, APC, Delta State Chapter today successfully conducted its congress with Elder Omeni Sobotie emerging the chairman of the party.

The congress which took place at the playground of the Federal College of Education, Asaba, also produced Chief Francis Owighor as Deputy State chairman, Nick Ovuakporie as Secretary,
Fred Mordi, State Treasurer; Felix Morka , Legal Adviser; Pulinus Akpeki, Leader of Delta Central; Chief Adesoye Eduaka, Leader ofDelta North;Austin Orighoye, Leader of Delta South, Thompson Okoro, Org Sec, William Deminor, State Special leader, Mudiaga Okorodo; State Woman Leader, Okwudili Tina;State Auditor,Amadiri Asobo Paul; State Welfare Officer, Akpotu Ayu among others.

Announcing the result of the congress, the chairman of the Delta State Congress Committee, Sen. Ajibola Bashiru, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, adding that they will forward their report to the national office of the party.

The exercise was also observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

In his acceptance speech on behalf of the newly elected exco, the State chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie gave assurance that they would hit the ground running, adding that the new exco “will plan its work and work out it’s plan”.

Acknowledging that though it may seem difficult, he said by “the grace of God ,APC will capture the state in 2023”, urging everyone to cooperate with the new leadership of the party in the State.

Fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the congress, the Deputy President of Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the congress, adding that the next battle is with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to him, the new State exco has its job cut out for it, urging it to reach out to members who are aggrieved to come together to work towards a stronger APC in the state.

He stated that the leader of the party in the State Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, has been saddled with the responsibility of reaching out to aggrieved members.

“Well, they (new exco) have their work cut out for them. In addition to that , they have the founding leader of the party in the state.

“He is saddled with the responsibility of bringing those who are aggrieved on board. He has been doing that for the past six or seven months now.

 

“We are confident that the Exco that emerged today will do their job. Also, the chairman who was elected today is somebody who has reach across the state.

“He also has friends in the other party. So, I’m sure those who do not like us will return to the party because of him.”

Also Fielding questions from journalists on the sideline, a national caucus member of the party, Chief Frank Kokori, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the congress, noting that he has confidence in their capacity to lead the party.

According to the former national labour leader, the congress was very successful, adding that as an elder of the party it is his duty to correct them whenever they are going wrong.

“The Congress was very successful. We believe the new exco has the capacity so we will watch them. When they are there they will show to us they are capable.

“But as a party’s father, they are my children. We will always correct them whenever they are going wrong,” Chief Kokori said.

The newly elected Ex-officio for Delta Central, Mr. Chujs Erhire, noted that the new exco has the capacity to deliver the party.
He said: “We are privileged to have high-Calibre men and women elected today as members of the State Executive Council.

“I have the firm belief that by the time they are sworn in, they have all it takes to galvanize the party into a winning way.”

Also present at the Congress were the Delta APC Founding Leader, Olorogun Otega Emerhor OON, Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Nwaoboshi, Hon. Francis Waive, Hon. Chief Fred Olokor Okpohworo, Elder Omeni Sobotie, Elder Uba Donatus, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, Olorogun Barr. Adelabu Bodjor, Prophet Jones Erue, Barr. Valentine Onojeghwo (elected State Pub Sec) and Chief Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central chairnan).

Others include the Delta APC State Congress Committee, Hon. Sonni Efurhievwe, Mr Gideon Ukpohwo, Comrade Monday Oyeghe , Barr. Spencer Ohwofa Dr. Iyke Odikpo, Dr Ogaga Ifowodo Okorefe Mudi among others.
