President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has announced that the 17 military personnel who were killed last Thursday in Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State will posthumously receive national honours.
Speaking during the break of the Ramadan fast in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the leadership of the House, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of oversight for transparency in governance, cautioning against excessive summoning of officials that could disrupt operations.
He extended condolences to the military and bereaved families, pledging a dignified burial for the deceased.
The President urged lawmakers to exercise discretion in their oversight duties.
“The baby step being taken by our country is doing well. The sacrifices we have made and we ask the people to continue to make, assuring them that there is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel.
“All you have to do is to have faith. Pls don’t forget your constituencies, remember what they are going through. We salute all our men and women in uniform and we sympathize with them.
“I will soon make further pronouncements. They must have a befitting burial and they must have national honour.”
The President expressed confidence in the National Assembly’s capacity to uphold good governance, praising the harmonious ties between the executive and legislature.
He highlighted the swift passage of bills benefiting Nigerians due to this cooperation.
He encouraged legislators to remain connected to their constituencies and use the Ramadan period as an opportunity to extend compassion and aid to the less fortunate in society.
