  • Claims He Killed Umoren With Stabilizer In Self-Defence

20-year-old Uduak Akpan, suspected killer of Miss Iniobong Umoren on Friday confessed that he had used ‘reverse psychology’ to lure “about six other girls as victims,” before the slain job seeker.

However, he claimed unlike his latest victim, Umoren, none of the girls died.

He made the confession while being paraded before journalists, including The New Diplomat‘s Akwa Ibom/Cross River Correspondent by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command in Uyo, Friday.

There have been widespread rumors that the prime suspect in the murder of Iniubong Umoren had died in police custody. Following the rumours, the Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Andrew Amiengheme said it became necessary to have the press conference and parade Uduak Akpan and his father to dispell false information. CP Andrew said he had received over 1000 calls in recent days from within the country and outside on the case.

In his confession, Uduak said he used a stabilizer and pressing iron to hit Umoren in self defense as the late victim had turned violent after allegedly giving her consent for sex to secure a non-existing job. “I asked her if she can work in a farm where hard drugs are kept like a secretary she said yes. When she came I told her there was no such job but a hoax.”

According to Uduak, he told the victim he needed sex from her before she leaves, claiming she gave her consent with a condition that it must be protected sex. He claimed after he removed the condom, late Umoren hit him on the forehead with a nearby electric stabilizer, bit his finger and ran for the door.

Uduak further told journalists that late Miss Umoren died after he hit her back with the stabilizer on the head.

“I asked her that I would like to have sex with her before she left. She agreed and gave a condition that I would have to use condom, which I did.

“While I removed the condom, she became furious and removed the nearby stabilizer to hit me on the head… While I was bleeding, in oder to stop her, I used the stabilizer to hit her. When I hit her, she fell.”

His stories were however incoherent and the police were asked to present the medical report.

The police affirmed that medical records would be made public as soon as the courts resume from strike. The Police Commissioner assured that justice would be served in the matter.

Uduak Akpan was paraded alongside his father who claimed not to have any previous knowledge about his son’s hideous escapades as he was busy with his service with the federal government where he recently retired as an Assistant Director.

In his own account, Uduak’s father claimed he was not aware of his son’s criminal activities until he was invited to Uran Police Station.

“I wasn’t aware, I’m not happy about it,” he said. “I was asked to call him and I called him back. When he arrived, I was allowed to interact with him. He told me he did something wrong and that he was sorry. I blamed him: ‘Why did you do this? You are not my only child; I have two other children and they are women. If anybody does this to your sisters would you be happy?’ He said no.”

Barely three hours before their parade before media, late Miss Umoren was buried Friday morning at her home town amid tears from thousands of mourners.

The burial ceremony was officiated by Faith Tabarnacle Congregation at her family compound in Nung Ita, Ikot Essien, Oruk Anam LGA, Akwa Ibom State.
