Heavily armed gunmen in the very early hours of Monday, invaded the residence of a staff member of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and abducted him in broad daylight.
The kidnappers who reportedly stormed the residence of the abducted staff located at Sarduana Crescent, Area BZ main campus of the university, located in Samaru area of Zaria, Kaduna state, initially whisked him, his wife and daughter away.
However, the gunmen were confronted by security operatives following a distress call put through to the University Security unit which alerted the Police Intelligence Response Team.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Mallam Auwuar Umar, Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the institution, “there was an exchange of gun-fire between the mobile Police and kidnappers who ran into the bush along with the abuctees” having perceived they could be overpowered by security forces.
It was gathered that the police gave the kidnappers a serious chase, pursuing them to Kasuwar Da’a village, a neigbhourhood that borders the university, where the gunmen reportedly let go the man’s wife and his daughter.
However, the kidnappers went away with the man whose whereabout was still uncertain as at the time of filing this report.
The university in the statement disclosed that the Inspector- General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu and heads of other security agencies have been informed of the development.
Vice-Chancellor of ABU who expressed regret at the sad development, urged the University community to remain calm and vigilant in order to avoid a repeat of similar incident.
