Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has revealed why he can’t afford sending his children to schools abroad.
The governor also advanced reasons for sending his children to Nigerian schools, particularly within the Southeast region.
In a press statement issued on Friday, Nwifuru stated that all his children school in Nigeria and none is attending school beyond the Southeast, emphasizing his commitment to local education.
The Governor revealed that three of his children are schooling in Ebonyi state while the remaining two are schooling in Enugu State.
He added that the highest school fee he pays for each of his children is #35, 000.
He stated: “I am the only Governor in Nigeria presently that all his children are schooling in the country and not even beyond Southeast!
“Three are in Ebonyi and 2 in Enugu. Their biggest school fee is #35, 000 and when I told them in the Nigeria Governor’s forum, all were surprised and felt sober.
“Some Commissioners in my Government have schools that are paying over 2 Million naira per term for their children, but I can’t imagine myself paying such an amount that’s more than 5 million per term for my children.”
He added:”Where will I get the money to continue paying for their school fees after my temporary tenure as a Governor? I don’t want to develop blood pressure during the time I should be resting.
“We must have to join hands together and reposition the educational system in the country such that we can bring down those things that are lacking here that are making those big men always send their children abroad for studies, and I must make sure it starts from Ebonyi State.”
