Amidst the influx of tributes from other world leaders, Cameroonian President Paul Biya has stirred reaction following his expression of surprise at President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 US presidential race. This is despite the fact that President Joe Biden is very much younger than Biya in age.
In a recent post by a popular X user, @OurFavOnlineDoc, President Biya was said to have made a humorous statement, expressing shock at the American President’s decision to withdraw from the United States presidential race.
“91-year-old Cameroonian President Paul Biya (who has been in power for 42 years) expresses shock at Biden’s resignation and wonders why the young, 81-year-old, vibrant American President is dropping out of the presidential race at such a tender age,” the post read.
Recall that Biden stepped down from contesting in the November presidential election due to health concerns.
To many leaders, Biden’s decision marks a significant moment in American political history. Meanwhile, to Biya, it reportedly marks a heartbreaking turn of events.
Biden-and-Biya Contrasts:
At 91, President Biya remains the world’s oldest incumbent head of state, marking his 42-year rule in Cameroon amidst deafening challenges such as economic issues and governance criticisms.
In stark contrast, Biden, at 81, made a decision that caused a major shift in leadership dynamics across the world, particularly in Africa.
The post added: “The contrast between Biden’s voluntary exit and Biya’s continued presidency illustrates differing approaches to democracy in world politics.
