Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja today, Friday, November 21, 2025, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The high-stakes summit, scheduled for November 22-23, will gather heads of the world’s top 20 economies, alongside the African Union and key international financial institutions, to deliberate on global economic stability and development priorities.
Tinubu’s decision to delegate the Vice President follows a postponement of his initial trip.
It was gathered that the President is remaining in Nigeria to receive further security briefings and attend to pressing national security concerns, specifically recent incidents in Kebbi and Kwara States.
This was made known in a press statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.
The Vice President is expected back in Nigeria at the end of the engagements.
