Hajia Dada, the mother of the former president of Nigeria, the late Umaru Musa Yar’adua, and late Chief of Staff Supreme Headquarters during the Obasanjo military regime, late Major General Shehu Musa Yar’adua, has been committed to Mother Earth on Tuesday.
She passed away on Monday, September 2, 2024, at 101 years of age.
Dada was laid to rest in Danmarna cemetery, Katsina State, at about 02:30 pm.
Also, special Islamic prayers were conducted by Imam Aminu Abdullahi Yammawa in front of the family house at Yaradua.
The New Diplomat reports that Vice-President Kashim Shettima, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Governor Umar Dikko Radda, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, were among the dignitaries who attended the funeral service held in honour of the mother of former President Yar’Adua.
Others in attendance included Datti Baba-Ahmed, Senator Ahmad Lawan, former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Senator Adamu Aleiro, business mogul Dahiru Mangal, and the emirs of Katsina and Daura, among others.
It would be recalled that Dada Yar’adua, the mother of Dada was the wife of Musa Yar’Adua, Mutawallen Katsina and a former Minister of Lagos Affairs in the First Republic, passed away at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina on Monday evening after a brief illness.
She is also the mother of Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, the second in command in the Obasanjo-led military regime and Umar Musa Yar’Adua a former president of Nigeria.
Dada is also the mother of Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the current Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army.
Also, one of her grandchildren, Murtala Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, was a former minister under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
