After weeks of speculations, former Governor of Kano State Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has finally defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC) to New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Confirming the report, the former DG of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s Support Group AbdulMumin Jibrin, through his Twitter handle said the Senator has moved to NNPP.

It reads: “Breaking- Sen Ibrahim Shekarau joins NNPP. Details later.”

Recall that the ruling party in the state has been hit by massive defections with many prominent politicians in the northern region moving to the New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP).

Former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso is regarded as the national leader of the party. The defectors include former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s Chief of Staff, Ali Makoda and the Director-General, Tinubu Support Groups, Abdulmumini Jibrin (former member representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on Appropriation during the controversial budget padding).

Others include former Speaker, Kano State House of Assembly, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, a House of Representatives member for Tofa/Dawakin Tofa/Rimingado Constituency, Abdulkadir Jobe and a former aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on Legislative affairs, Kawu Sumaila.
