Shehu Sani, former Kaduna Central Senator, has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to exercise caution in his interactions with security personnel.
Sani’s advice came on Tuesday following a heated confrontation between Wike and an unidentified military officer over an alleged land-grabbing incident in Abuja’s Gaduwa District.
The New Diplomat had reported that a viral video shows Wike accusing the officer of unlawfully guarding a parcel of land linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff. The minister questioned why the military would claim ownership of public land under the guise of official connections.
The tension escalated when the officer, dressed in camouflage, insisted the land acquisition was lawful and acted within official guidelines. Wike, visibly frustrated, ordered the officer to remain quiet, prompting a heated exchange that drew attention across social media.
Reacting on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Shehu Sani praised Wike’s efforts to restore order in the FCT but warned against confrontations with soldiers.
“Wike is doing an excellent job in Abuja but should not be encouraged to do this kind of stunt with soldiers,” Sani wrote.
The viral clip has provoked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians commending the officer’s composure, while others warned that such confrontations could strain civil-military relations in the nation’s capital.
