Reacting to Philip Shaibu’s alleged forceful moves to gain entry into the Edo State Government House on Thursday, Shehu Sani, a former Nigerian Senator, has reacted, describing the dangers which the political atmosphere of the state portends.

Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor of Edo, attempted to seize control of the Government House in Benin City today, July 18, 2024.

But according to reports, security guards who were under orders not to let him into the building refused him admission.

In his X post later on Thursday, Sani stated that the current political situation of the state is one that is bloodthirsty.

“Edo Politics now becoming more deadly. Spilling blood for power.”

It would be recalled that Shaibu was recently reinstated by a Federal High Court, which overturned his earlier impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly.

But in a swift reaction, the Edo State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku, has since appealed the court’s decision and requested a stay of execution pending the outcome of the appeal.

The political landscape is gearing up for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
