Statement Displays ‘bankruptcy of new ideas’ — Sani
Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has further incurred the wrath of Nigerians over a Facebook post he made, where he said terrorism may last in the country till 2040.
Just days after the horrendous massacre of 43 rice farmers in Zabarmari, Borno State, embattled Buratai, took to Facebook, Tuesday, stating that terrorism is beyond the scope of many Nigerians, noting it may take the country another 20 years to end the menace.

The Boko Haram sect has killed thousands and displaced millions of Nigerians in the Northeast zone of the country since 2009 when the guerrilla war broke out.
Buratai who called for more stakeholders’ collaboration to end the insurgency, said success in the fight depends on the level of escalation and cooperation coming from civil and military authorities.
His post reads: “There is general misunderstanding of what insurgency and terrorism entail. There is the likelihood of terrorism persisting in Nigeria for another 20 years.
“It only depends on the level of escalation and the appropriate responses by all stakeholders both civil and military authorities.
“Also by both local in international actors. Citizens responsibility is equally important and imperative. All must cooperate to contain the lingering insecurity. Let there be collective action and responsibility.”
But Nigerians are not having any of those submissions as many view the statement as an admittance of failure from a war-wearied general.
Appointed as the Chief of Army staff in 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari, Buratai alongside other military chiefs has been coordinating the country’s terrorism fight in over five years now, but Nigerians have continued to call on the President to sack the chiefs as they insist not much has changed since they took over the prosecution of the war.
After managing to push back the terrorists when the military chiefs newly came on board, the army under Buratai’s watch had many times in the past rushed to the press to claim that Boko Haram has been degraded, only for the recalcitrant terrorists to strike again and shock Nigerians with a slew of horrendous attacks. And day after day, citizens continue to confront the agents of early death–Boko Haram.
Reacting to the Buratai’s post on his Twitter handle, former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, on Thursday, said the statement coming from Buratai showed the “bankruptcy of new ideas and strategies” in the military hierarchy to win the decades-old war.
Sani wrote, “Telling our people that the insurgency will last twenty years after repeatedly misleading claims of victories attest to the failure of those saddled with the responsibility of leading the fight.
“It also signifies the resignation and bankruptcy of new ideas and strategies.”

On February 24, 2016, the chief of @HQNigerianArmy boasted that he had defeated Boko Haram.
On December 2, 2020, the same Buratai said the Boko Haram insurgency may last for 20 years.

A distortion for distractions!!!
Your sole task was to end terrorism but after 6 yrs of spectacular failure, you are now telling us your job description. You are employed & paid to end it not to describe or glorify it.

Buratai was the procurement director during GEJ. There was massive looting of the money meant for war. Accusations of sub standard weapons were made. Buratai was reported to have houses in Dubai worth millions of dollars. Military said he has snake farm. You want the war to end?

That Buratai's prediction is just over the fence!
How do you sit in 2020, with all the ammunitions & manpower you have at your disposal, and say terrorism is likely to continue till 2040?
The General is definitely telling us he is tired. Dear Buhari, when are we replacing COAS? pic.twitter.com/PKw0HfkUAE

Two years ago, Buhari said Boko Haram are technically defeated. Yesterday, Buratai said Boko Haram war will last for another 20 years.
PS: Gen Buratai was the Director of Army procurement during GEJ administration and currently the Army chief.
Who cursed Nigeria?
