*Benin Chief: It’s All Lies And Propaganda…

Comrade Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State,  has  sounded the alarm that the immediate past national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is plotting to use the judiciary to invalidate the election of Governor Godwin Obaseki as the duly elected governor of Edo State.

The Deputy governor who made the allegation  during an empowerment program for Afemai Youths in Ogbona and Jattu  communities  at the weekend did not elaborate on how the  immediate past Edo state governor, Oshiomhole was purportedly plotting to use the judiciary to nullify the election of Governor Obaseki.

Attack on Akiolu, Others Sponsored By Edo Deputy Gov, Oshiomhole AllegesShaibu Raises Alarm: Oshiomhole Plotting To Void Obaseki’s Victory

Shaibu, however said  Oshiomhole  was alleged to have said at a social function at his Iyamho country home during the Christmas season that he (Oshiomhole) would ensure that Governor Obaseki’s election was invalidated at the judiciary.

Recall that Mr Godwin Obaseki, the sitting governor of Edo State and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) had defeated his main challenger, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo State.

Obaseki won re-election for a second term, with  57.3% of the total votes cast during the election as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

Shaibu who said he was disappointed with his erstwhile political father, Oshiomhole, noted that it was wrong for the former Edo state governor to resort to judicial interventions in an election that was clearly won by Obaseki of the PDP.

Shaibu in a statement issued by his Press assistant,  Benjamin Atu, urged Edo people, including the youths  to take their destiny into their hands by securing Nigeria democracy and the political future of young people..

He said: ”The Nigeria Judiciary is known to be amongst the best in the world, therefore, Oshiomhole’s utterance is a mere crying of a beaten baby and he must be made aware that Edo is not Imo State.

“Now that he has vowed to test the collective will of the good people of Edo State by attempting to subvert their will through a questionable judicial arrangement, he will obviously not to be tolerated by the managers of our judiciary.”

He added: “The victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki is a victory for Nigeria’s democracy and it was the first election in Nigeria where all political parties came together to vote for one candidate for the overall development of the state.”

“Oshiomhole desirability to create tension to destabilize the state and make it ungovernable should be resisted by the good people of Edo State.”

However, some political analysts say Shaibu may well be sounding the alarm just to score cheap political points. According to a Benin Chief, ” these may be mere political noise to make both political points and make money from the system.”

He added;” You know after the election, Obaseki has shown that he wants to work as a solid professional and technocrat who is well known for his expertise. I don’t see where the politicians will come in and compete with the professionals for projects execution and delivery…

”So the only avenue is to make noise and accuse the opponent of plotting so that resources could be released to the politicians  like Shaibu to contain the so-called plots. I think the governor should simply focus on doing a good job. I don’t think Oshiomhole would be that tactless to say so. It’s all a ploy to raise money from a technocrat governor…”
