Nigeria Senators have thrown their weight behind beleaguered Senate President, Bukola Saraki. Senate Deputy President, Ike Ekweremadu, said legislators resolved to stand with the Senate President on his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal until he was proven guilty.

Ekweremadu announced the decision of the Senators after almost 2 hours executive session “We resolved to stand with the Senate President on his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal until he is proven guilty” Ekweremadu said.
Saraki is under probe at the Code of Conduct Bureau. He has been slapped with a 13-count charge of corruption.
 
The Senate also resolved to suspend the amendment of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act which passed seconding reading last week.
 
Reporting what happen during the executive session, Ekweremadu said the lawmakers discussed a number of issues affecting the smooth working of the Senate during the executive session. “During the close door session, a number of issues affecting the smooth working of the Senate were discussed and we resolved to suspend the amendment of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act” Ekweremadu said.
 
The Deputy Senate President added that the Senate also decided to suspend the discussion of petition against Senator Kabir Marafa currently with the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.
 
He added that the Senate has advice all those having court case to withdraw them and they have constituted zonal committee to resolve all dispute.
