The 109 members of the 10th Senate have collectively contributed their one-month salaries, totaling N109m, to support the victims affected by the drone accident in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This was disclosed on Sunday by Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, when he led a high-powered delegation on a courtesy call to Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani
In a press release issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau announced that the funds would be transferred to the state governor for further distribution among the affected individuals.
The statement reads: “All the 109 senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have donated their one-month salaries, amounting to N109m to the victims of drone mishap in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of the Kaduna State.”
The governor expressed his gratitude to the senators for their generous contribution of their December Salaries.
In the meantime, Governor Sani, upon receiving the senators, claimed that the security agencies in Nigeria were not operating in sync.
He urged the Senate to collaborate in guaranteeing justice for the survivors of Tudun-Biri community who tragically lost their loved ones in the erroneous assault.
Governor Uba Sani emphasized the commitment of the Kaduna State Government to providing ongoing support to the Security agencies in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities. He urged for a prompt investigation into the erroneous attack by the Army, aiming to hold the culprits accountable and prevent any future occurrences of such errors in any region of the nation.
He further reiterated his previous advocacy for a state police force, which he believed would enhance the current security setup.
Among the Senate delegation were Senate leader, Senator Micheal Opayemi Bamidele; the Chief Whip, Senator Ali Ndume; Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro; Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Kamorudeen Olarere; Senator Abdulhamid Malam-Madori; Senator Aliyu Ikra Bilbis; Senator Ibrahim Bomoi; Senator Ibrahim Lamido; Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua; Senator Victor Umeh; Senator Muntari Dandutse; Senator Lawal Usman; and Senator Emmanuel Udende, were also at the Barau Dikko Hospital to visit the victims.
It would be recalled that on Sunday night while the villagers were marking the Maulud celebration to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW, an unmanned aerial vehicle bombed some parts of the community, killing 30 villagers but according to officials of Amnesty International who visited the affected communities on Tuesday confirmed that the death toll had increased to 120.
