Enugu State on Thursday lost its Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Mathias Ekweremadu, to the cold hands of death.

The deceased is an elder brother to the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Hon. Ekweremadu slumped during a budget defence in the state House of Assembly, Thursday.

Ekweremadu’s death was later confirmed by doctors at Niger Foundation Hospital, Enugu where he was rushed to.

Until his death he was the Commissioner for Transport in Enugu state.

Hon. Ekweremadu was appointed as Commissioner in 2019.

Between 2015-2019 Ekweremadu represented Aninri State Constituency in the State House of Assembly and served as the Chief Whip of the Assembly.

In addition, he had also served as Chairman of Aninri Local government council.

Reacting to his demise, former President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki released a statement, Friday to condole with Senator Ike Ekweremadu and the entire family.

The statement reads, “Sending my heartfelt condolences to my friend and brother, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on the death of his brother, the Commissioner for Transportation of Enugu State, Chief Mathias Ekweremadu, who passed away yesterday.

“It is my prayer that Almighty God grants Senator Ekweremadu, his family, and the government and people of Enugu State solace as they mourn the passing of Chief Mathias, who was a passionate public servant that served his people at various levels with distinction,” Saraki added.
