The Senate on Thursday send back the Controller General of Nigeria Custom Hammed Ali for not wearing the service uniform.

Ali decided to appear before the Senate after the upper chamber of the National Assembly threatened to issue warrant of arrest on him if he fail to appear on Thursday.

Immediately Ali was invited to the chamber, the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu who presided over the sitting welcome him and ask the CG to explain why he was not appearing in uniform as directed in the Senate resolution.

In his reaction, Ali said the letter he received from the Senate did not specify he should wear uniform. He added that there is no law to his knowledge that the Controller General of the Custom must wear uniform and he is currently seeking legal advise on the issue.

But the Senate Deputy Majority leader Senator Ibn Na’allah referred the Controller General to relevant section of the custom act that mandate the CG to wear uniform. He mentioned section 7 sub section 2, section 8 and section 10 of the custom act

In his contribution Senator Jubrin Barau advise the CG to go back and comply with the Senate resolution before appearing before the Senate.

Senator Adeola Olamilakon supported the position of Barau. Effort by Senator Ali Wakil who said he had advise the CG to change his position from Controller General to Sole Administrator to plea with his colleagues to accept the CG did not go down well with most of the Senators.

At this point Senator Sekibo came with a motion that the CG should appear before the Senate next week Wedwearing his uniform. His motion was seconded Senator Bananas Gemade.I

Before putting the motion into voting, the DSP Ike Ekweremadu said section  2 of the custom act define a custom officer and wearing uniform is what make the CG an officer.

When he put the motion into voting, it was unanimously accepted by the Senators
