According to Senator Manager, a ranking Senator from Delta state,  the interface between the Senate committee and the Corporation should have naturally been more frequent but given the lockdown occasioned by Covid-19 pandemic, such repeated and recurring interface hasn’t been possible.

Manager  also used the opportunity offered by the meeting to reassure the NNPC management team of his committee’s willingness and commitment to embark  an oversight visit to the projects for proper assessment soon.

Similarly, a member of the Committee, Senator Albert Akpan Bassey, who also spoke on the subject matter commended the present leadership of the NNPC under the lead of Mallam Mele Kyari, GMD of NNPC for being passionate and dedicated to their work.

He added: “I want to commend the team led by the present GMD, a team of dedicated and passionate Nigerians. If they can reduce losses drastically within such a short time, I am sure the next report will reveal huge profit to the country. We must give them our support and cooperation.”

While throwing light on current subject areas of focus in his earlier presentation,  the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari, who was represented by the Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power, Engr. Yusuf Usman, explained that the successful accomplishments recorded by the NNPC in the gas sector  was as a result of the  support and cooperation  the Corporation has been enjoying from of the Senate Committee and the legislature in general.

The COO of Gas and Power noted that   gas supply to power has recorded tremendous improvement, stating that the challenge that his organization however faces is in the area of transmission in the country

Speaking on the AKK pipeline project,  Usman  further explained to the distinguished Senators that  it was conceived and envisaged to supply 2billion cubic feet of gas per day (2bcfd), underlying the fact  that it would be the primary source of gas for the power plants currently being developed in Abuja, Kaduna and Kano.
