The Nigerian Senate on Thursday Charged the Governor Of the Central Bank Of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, to urgently redirect Nigeria’s monetary and fiscal policies and get the country’s economy back on track.

Mr Cardoso was also confirmed as the chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the CBN, alongside eleven other members of the committee, after screening by the senate.

While expressing confidence in the team, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio applauded President Bola Tinubu for the choice he made in their selection, noting that their expertise will help turn around the CBN for the overall benefit all Nigerians

The committee members include Mr. Muhammad Abdullahi, CBN Deputy Governor; Mr. Bala Bello, CBN Deputy Governor; Mr. Emem Usoro, CBN Deputy Governor; Mr. Philip Ikeazor, CBN Deputy Governor.

Other appointees include Lamido Yuguda, Director General of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC); Jafia Lydia Shehu, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance; Muritala Sabo, CBN Director; Aloysius Uche; Agu Paulin; Mustapha Akinwumi; Bamidele Amon.

Recall that President Tinubu had earlier requested that the senate screen and confirm 12 persons who will constitute the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The President of the Senate then referred the list to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions to report back within a week.
