President Muhammadu Buhari has described the death of Senator Ali Wakil from Bauchi State as an incalculable loss to Nigeria’s democracy.

He said the late Wakil’s dedication to duty was remarkable and worthy of emulation.

Buhari, in his condolence message on Saturday, said Wakil’s death came as a great shock to him, adding that his dedication to duty would remain one of the greatest virtues for which the deceased would be remembered.

“The passion for duty was one of the finest qualities of late Senator Wakil,” Buhari said, urging other democratically elected leaders to borrow a leaf from the deceased’s record of dedication.”

He prayed Allah to bless the soul of the departed senator, even as he extended his condolences to his family, his colleagues in the National Assembly, as well as the government and people of Bauchi State.

Also, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bauchi State chapter, has expressed shock over Wakil’s death.

Buhari Disina, the APC Bauchi State Secretary, described Wakil’s death as serious and a big loss which could not be verbally expressed, adding that he was good to everyone he came across.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi State government has declared a three-day mourning for the late Senator.

Governor Mohammed Abubakar, who announced this on Saturday, said the government received with deep shock
the news of Wakil’s sudden death in Abuja.

In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy,
Governor Abubakar said, “His passage is a great loss not only to his constituents, but the entire nation.

“His vibrant contributions on the floor of the Senate chamber would be greatly missed. Such interventions have contributed in shaping national discourse.”

The statement added that the governor “has therefore, declared three-day mourning during which flags will fly at half mast. He has also suspended all state duties in Abuja and is returning home to mourn after witnessing funeral prayers in the nation’s capital.”

Late Senator Wakil was born in 1960 at Lere District Tafawa Balewa Local Government Council of Bauchi State.
Wakil attended Lere Primary School And completed his primary education in the year 1972.

He left behind 11 children and two wives.
