A combined team of security agencies in Southeast claims it has uncovered plans by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to bomb financial institutions, especially banks and business premises, among other public institutions in the region.

It was reported that the team of security agencies during one of its investigations interrogated members identified to be part of the IPOB group. Following their interrogation, the operatives were said to have uncovered the alleged scheme to carry out the bombing.

An intelligence source quoted by PRNigeria also alleged that the intention of IPOB is to wreak havoc and clone the attack and make seem as if it was perpetrated by the security agencies, including the military, Police and Department of State Services.

According to the source, IPOB is allegedly planning to take opportunity of the recent establishment of Ebube Agu, a security outfit recently launched by the Southeast Governors to launch attacks on public institutions in the region.

The source was quoted as saying: “The public is aware of the recent spate of attacks on military and security personnel as well as destructions of their properties perpetrated by criminal secessionist elements in a bid to further their selfish agenda.

“Already the campaigns towards the sinister motives have commenced with their recent statements and action so far. Is it not ridiculous and baseless claims by the Indigenous People of Biafra that the Department of State Services had planned to sponsor attacks on banks in the South East?

“The same IPOB had claimed that attacks would be carried out by DSS operatives under the guise of the Ebube Agu recently floated by the South East governors rather than the group’s Eastern Security Network.

“Such allegations should be taken as cheap blackmail, designed by the illegal organisation to distract the public and indeed, the international community from what has become its pattern of violent attacks, retreat and feigning of non-violent dispositions.

“The public was advised to be wary of the antics of IPOB which hides under these methods to wreak havoc on innocent people and targets.”

It would be recalled that the immediate former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu had alleged that the attacks on the Imo State Police Headquarter and the state headquarter of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS) were perpetrated by the Eastern Security Network (ESN), a security outfit of IPOB.

According to the former IGP, a preliminary investigation carried out on the attacks revealed that the operatives of the ESN attacked the facilities with various sophisticated weapons ranging from General Purpose Machine Gun(GPMGs), Sub-Machine Guns (SMGs), AK49 rifles, among others.

However, IPOB had debunked the allegations, stating that the ESN has no business in attacking the people of the region as it accused security operatives of framing it up for the attacks.

According to IPOB, the sole aim of the establishment of ESN is to protect the South East region from terrorist and bandits.

However, The New Diplomat had reported that the proscribed group had threatened to sabotage the efforts of Southeast Governors in forming the Ebube Agu security outfit as it warned would-be operatives of the outfit to steer clear.
