The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has called on security operatives to take necessary steps towards securing the immediate release of the party chieftain and former Senator in the state, Nelson Effiong abducted by kidnappers.

This statement was made available through the party State Publicity Secretary, Nkereuwem Enyongekere in Uyo on Tuesday morning.

“Today, the CTC Chairman, Dr Ita Udosen has on behalf of the party urged the DSS, the Nigerian Police Force and other security outfits in the State to urgently swing into action to bring him back home safe while those ensuring that those behind this dastardly act are made to face the law.”

Senator Effiong was kidnapped on Sunday evening by yet to be identified gunmen along Oron road, Uyo after a violent attack that left 8 people injured.

The outspoken Senator from Oron in 2017 decamped from Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) to APC on grounds of party injustice and deprivation of benefits. His famous lines include claims that “the Singlets they wore to campaign for Udom Emmanuel was torn without the replacement capacity”.

Meanwhile, it is unclear what the kidnappers’ demands are at the moment as there are reports that no contact has been established with the victims’ family.

“We are yet to be briefed if the families have been contacted by anyone for any ransom demand.

“The party will do everything in its power to secure Senator Effiong’s release while enjoining all our party faithful to continue to pray for his safe return to his and our APC fold soonest.” The party spokesman said.
