Football fans have begun to react following the announcement of Lionel Messi as the 2021 Ballon D’Or winner on Monday, November 29, 2021, winning the award for the seventh time on the night.

Messi capped off a remarkable 2021 by beating off a strong list of nominees to claim the prize at a glitzy ceremony at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on November 29, 2021.

Football fans who shockingly reacted to this swiftly on their Twitter pages, mentioned that the process of adjudging the winner of the 2021 award has been rigged as fans opined that Messi didn’t deserve to win.

However, the award comes as the first accolade Messi will receive in his new home city and takes him two ahead of long-term rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who was among those who missed out on the award.
