Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has allegedly summoned an emergency executive council meeting in response to a significant shift in allegiance by 27 lawmakers of the State House of Assembly, who have defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.
The state’s political landscape has been shaken by the surprising defection, which was declared by assembly members who are loyal to FCT minister Nyesom Wike.
Governor Fubara’s prompt action to call for an emergency meeting highlights the seriousness of the situation and emphasizes the urgency for discussions within the executive council.
The mass exodus has already sparked conjecture regarding the possible consequences for the political scenario of Rivers state.
The decision made by the assembly members highlights a notable change in political loyalty and suggests potential reconfigurations in the political landscape of the state.
The emergency executive council meeting holds immense significance in dealing with the consequences of the widespread defection and determining the subsequent political strategies for Governor Fubara and his administration.
TheNewDiplomat had earlier reported that 27 lawmakers who are loyalists to Wike switched allegiance to the APC.
It was gathered that the defection was spearheaded by the former Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule.
