By Ken AforTwenty-seven (27) lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to ex-Governor Nyesom Wike on Monday switched their allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was disclosed by Enemi George, a member of the Assembly, who claimed that Martin Amaewhule led the defection of the 27 lawmakers, according to Channels Television.

He stated that the choice to switch to APC was made while they were in session on Monday.

This trails the unending political tension in the state which started in October.

Recall that on Sunday, October, 29, some hoodlums set ablaze the chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The crisis escalated the following day when some 24 lawmakers in the Assembly had a sitting and removed the Leader of the House, Ehie, loyalist to Wike alongside three others.

The 24 lawmakers in the presence of the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule served an impeachment notice on the Governor.

The matter was however resolved after the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

But Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of the state and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accused Fubara of being behind the deliberate burning of a portion of the State House Assembly complex.

More details to follow.
